The Association of Iron and Steel Engineers Pittsburgh Section,
in a continuing effort to promote careers in the steel industry
through engineering and metallurgy education, has developed an
academic program of scholarship grants and educational activities.
Objectives: The objectives of the AISE
Pittsburgh Section Scholarships are to reward and encourage AISE
Pittsburgh Section area high school seniors or currently enrolled
undergraduate students preparing for a career in engineering or
metallurgy by providing a grant of financial support during full-time
attendance at any accredited college or university..
Awards: Two scholarships, valued
at $2,500.00 (2500 dollars) each will be available each year.
A scholarship, valued at $1,000.00, sponsored by J&L Specialty
Steel will also be available in 2000. The scholarships will be
awarded to AISE Pittsburgh Section area high school seniors
or currently enrolled undergraduate students, preparing for a
career in engineering or metallurgy. If there are no applicants
in engineering or metallurgy, the awards will be given to eligible
students studying other majors relating to iron and steel production.
Consideration will also be given to extracurricular activities
and the student essays. The students must be accepted in an eligible,
full-time course of study, at an accredited college or university.
The awards will be made without regard to financial need.
Eligibility: Students are eligible
to compete for the scholarships if, at the time of application,
they are the children, grandchildren (natural, step, adopted,
or ward), or spouse of a member (two or more years) in good standing,
of the Pittsburgh District Section, Association of Iron and Steel
Engineers (active or associate). The students must be accepted
in an eligible, full-time course of study at an accredited college
or university. The awards will be made without regard to financial
need.
Governing Rules:
1. The scholarship must be used at an accredited college or university.
2. The student must start or be continuing in the course of study,
at the college or university, in the fall of the same year the
scholarship is awarded.
3. The AISE Steel Foundation will forward the scholarship
stipend, as a lump sum, to the college or university for deposit
in the account of the student, prior to September 30th.
4. In cases where the student's studies or admission are delayed
or interrupted for any reason, the Secretary (AISE Pittsburgh
Section) must be advised immediately, and may result in forfeiture.
5. Completed application forms are to be returned by registered
mail directly to the Secretary (AISE Pittsburgh Section),
postmarked no later than May 31st of the year of the award (e.g.
May, 2001 for the 2001-2002 school year).
Selection: The scholarship applications will be reviewed
by the Scholarship Award Committee. The Committee consists of
a Chairman (AISE Pittsburgh Section Member), up to four
additional members of the Pittsburgh Section, and the Secretary
(AISE Pittsburgh Section). The winners will normally be
notified by August in the year of the awards (e.g. August, 2001
